GloFish were originally bred to help scientists in detecting environmental pollutants. By adding a naturally derived fluorescence gene to the fish, scientists hoped to quickly and easily determine when a waterway was contaminated. GloFish acquire their fluorescent color via a fluorescent protein gene that they inherit from their parents and pass on to their offspring through traditional breeding. Step 1: Remove tank and components from box

Step 2: Wipe walls of tank, rinse decor and gravel

Step 3: Pour gravel into GloFish tank (Sold Separately)

Watch your gravel glow like your fish! GloFish offers 5 brightly colored types of gravel for your new GloFish tank that glow under the blue LED light. This tank is designed for 1 bag (5 Lbs.) of GloFish gravel.

Step 4: Place plants in GloFish tank (Sold Separately)

Customize your tank with a variety of plant colors and sizes. The plants glow under the blue LED light and enhance your GloFish experience. This tank is designed for 7 GloFish plants (3 large, 3 medium and 1 small).

Step 5: Place ornaments in GloFish tank (Sold Separately)

Add a fun and decorative ornament to your aquarium! These ornaments glow under the blue LED light and create a great place for your fish to swim through. This tank is designed for 1 GloFish ornament.

Step 6: Place GloFish LED Bubbler into tank (Sold Separately)

Create a beautiful underwater light effect with this LED Bubbler. The Bubbler compliments your kit’s lights while improving your tanks circulation and oxygenation. [Air pump and airline tubing sold separately.]

Step 7: Wash Tetra Bio-Bag Cartridge (Sold Separately)

Buy in bulk and be prepared for your next water change with the 12 pack of medium Bio-Bag cartridges for your GloFish Tetra filter. The filter cartridge should be changed every 4 weeks.

Step 8: Place Bio-Bag cartridge in filter, then place filter into tank

Step 9: Place Tetra heater into tank (Sold Separately)

Keep your fish happy and healthy with an aquarium heater. No matter what the room feels like, with a heater your fish will always be at a happy temperature. This GloFish tank is designed to work with the HT 10 heater. A heater is recommended for all GloFish.

Step 10: Attach aquarium background to the outside back of the tank (Sold Separately)

Don’t make your fish stare at a wall. Our beautifully designed GloFish backdrops pick up the blue LED light and enhance the glow of your aquarium. Each backdrop is two sided with unique pictures on each side.

Step 11: Add water to tank

Tank holds up to 5 gallons of water

Step 12: Add water conditioner (Sold Separately)

Step 13: Add SafeStart before adding fish (Sold Separately)

Start your tank off right, add a 1.69oz (50mL) bottle of Tetra SafeStart to your conditioned water. Tetra SafeStart lets you instantly add fish without waiting the typical amount of time to establish the bio-filter. A patented bacterium blend works quickly to remove dangerous ammonia and nitrate so that you can get started immediately with your new aquarium.

Step 14: Prepare your fish

After bringing home your new fish, float the travel bag of fish in your aquarium for 15 minutes.

Step 15: Transfer Fish

Using a net, quickly transfer fish from carrying bag to your tank.
