Maritime Aquarium Names New President

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk announced Tuesday Dr. Brain L. Davis will become its new president. Davis will replace Jennifer Herring, who has been the aquarium’s president since 2004. He is a native of New Jersey.

Davis is currently the Vice President of Education and Training at the Georgia Aquarium and a member of the executive team. Davis was the eighth team member to join the Georgia Aquarium and was integral in the Aquarium’s design and development for guest experience for what was at the time the world’s largest aquarium.

He has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Environmental Science Education from Rutgers University and a Master’s of Education degree in Secondary Science Education from Georgia State University.

Throughout his career, he has worked at the New York Aquarium and the Education Department at Zoo Atlanta. During his time at Zoo Atlanta, Davis worked to bring educational programs into alignment with state and national curriculum standards, while also directing advertising and designing science-related professional development programs for grades K-12.

Davis has published papers on science and aquarium education, and is a member of the National Science Teachers Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

He will begin his tenure on December 28.
