Plein Air event May 30-31
WILMINGTON | Artists return to the Burgwin Wright House and Gardens for a Plein Air event 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31.
The second annual celebration of art invites the public to observe the artists as they work. A reception and art show 6-9 p.m. Saturday evening is also open to the public, and 30 percent of proceeds from the sale of artwork benefits the preservation of the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens.

Aquarium offers outdoor activities
KURE BEACH | The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher recently announced new outdoor activities for the summer.
Canoeing the Salt Marsh: 9 a.m. Saturdays, June 7 through June 28. The three-hour explorations of the Zeke’s Island Estuarine Research Reserve by canoe includes canoeing, crabbing, seining or birding. Participants should be able to swim and be capable of sustained physical exertion. Closed-toe shoes are appropriate. This activity is for ages 8 and older, and children aged 8-12 must be accompanied by two adults. The fee is $25 per participant. Aquarium admission is not included.
Salt Marsh and Crabbing: 8 a.m. Friday, June 27. The hands-on program introduces participants to the challenge of catching blue crabs. Lessons in crab biology and crabbing equipment prepare participants for an exciting expedition outdoors to catch – and release – crabs. All bait and equipment is provided. This activity is for ages 7 and older. The fee: is $19 for ages 13 and older; $17 for ages 7-12. Aquarium admission included.
Surf Fishing Workshop: 8 a.m. Tuesdays, June 3 through June 24. The three-hour workshop includes one hour of classroom discussion, followed by surf fishing on a nearby beach. All equipment and bait is provided, and the program takes place rain or shine. This activity is for ages 10 and older. The fee is $15 per participant. Aquarium admission is not included.

Summer grief meetings set
WILMINGTON | Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life-CareCenter is offering free grief groups for the community.
Grief – An open-ended discussion: Noon-1:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 26, July 24, and Aug. 21, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick. The drop-in sessions cover a variety of grief topics, methods of healing, coping and reminiscing. No reservations are required for drop-in groups.
Living with grief – Coping with the death of a spouse: 4-6 p.m. Mondays, June 30 through Aug. 4; at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane SE, in Bolivia. The program is designed to provide grief education and support, enabling members to cope with and understand grief. Discussions include the phases of grief and the grieving process, along with other areas of concern for participants. YMCA yard sale
WILMINGTON | The Wilmington Family YMCA holds its second annual community yard sale 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at 2710 Market Street.
Items for sale include books, clothing, collectibles, electronics, exercise equipment, furniture, housewares, movies and more.
Proceeds benefit the YMCA’s Annual Giving campaign, which supports programs for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
