Beijing Aquarium held the opening ceremony for a series of public charity events on the afternoon of May 8. These events, themed “Caring for Medical and Health Workers”, are a tribute to local medical and health workers as Nurses Day (May 12) approaches. The Xicheng District Federation of Trade Unions and the Xicheng District Health Bureau will jointly organize the events.
After the ceremony, 150 of the best medical workers from the Xicheng District health system were invited to visit Beijing Aquarium, and make close contact with the star animals. At the same time, the Aquarium and Xicheng District Health Bureau also organized a large-scale volunteer specialist medical consultation, at which dozens of doctors from several of Beijing’s famous hospitals’ clinics provided consultations.
Hu Weiyong, general manager of Beijing Aquarium, said: “we not only pay attention to endangered animals and marine life, but also care for people making a positive contribution to society. Though we are in different industries, we all take public responsibilities for communities and citizens.”
Beijing Aquarium opened in 1999. It is reported the charity events will last through the whole of this year. As a bonus, medical and health care workers will enjoy a good discount when buying tickets to visit the Beijing Aquarium from May onward.
