Deadly aquatic creatures on show at aquarium

Visitors to Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium can get close to a variety of deadly aquatic creatures as part of an Easter event.

Venom, Poison and Stingers, which runs from Friday, until Sunday, April 10, showcases a selection of the aquatic world’s deadliest critters including lionfish, puffer fish, pictured, stingrays, sea urchins and fire bellied toads.

There will also be two special visits from the bug man Martin Rapley on Thursday, March 31 and Thursday, April 7 where visitors can enjoy hands-on encounters with a selection of creepy crawlies like tarantulas, scorpions and giant centipedes.

The aquarium will be running predators tours throughout the holidays and younger visitors will be able to take part in arts and crafts workshops where they can create their own paper plate pufferfish and jellyfish hats.

Blue Reef’s Hannah Butt said: ‘This is the perfect opportunity for visitors of all ages to have the chance to get up close and personal with a huge selection of potentially deadly creatures in a safe and controlled environment.’

There will also be the chance to win a child’s annual membership to Blue Reef.

More than 40 naturally-themed displays reveal the sheer variety of life in the deep from native sharks and rays to the cute otters and colourful reptiles and amphibians.
