TWO KOORANA crocodiles will take centre stage in a display at the world’s biggest shopping mall.
Jock the croc and his girlfriend are currently winging their way to the Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre in the Dubai Mall.
They will touch down at 2pm today, having made the journey on board a specially equipped Singapore Airlines jumbo jet.
Koorana’s John Lever said it was the first time the farm near Rockhampton had exported crocodiles and he was excited at the prospect of having a little bit of Central Queensland in the heart of Dubai. About 75 million people visit the mall each year.
“Part of the deal was that Koorana and CQ get a mention,” Mr Lever said. “This is going to be an exciting bit of promotion for us.”
Mr Lever said the Dubai deal was struck after Koorana sent a croc to the Melbourne Aquarium last year.
“That was such a successful enterprise that when the CEO was transferred to the Dubai aquarium, he contacted me to arrange a croc for their new display. “And being Dubai, this one of course had to be bigger.”
Jock certainly fits the bill. He is 5m-plus, weighs 750kg and at age 40, has another 20 or 30 years of growth left in him.
He was caught in Chinaman’s Creek in Cairns in the ’80s.
He and his girlfriend have been together at Koorana for about 15 years.
